For my capstone project, I worked with a team of four people on "Project Hyades". Project Hyades is an escape room-style game, where the goal is to use clues in the environment to solve puzzles so the player can escape. The game takes place in an abandoned scientific laboratory, where the player wakes up with no memories of their life. An alien lifeform names Hyades is found trapped in a containment pod inside the lab. He attempts to coax the player into helping him escape, offering his knowledge of the lab to help the player solve puzzles.
My role in the team was to create concept art for Hyades and to work on texturing 3D models. I designed Hyades suit with the idea that he was made of a crystal-type material, and could change shape. The suit would help him maintain a human-like form, probably in an attempt to seem more relatable and less like a threat. Hyades had to look threatening enough to make the player feel unsettled, but not obviously evil to seem like an enemy. I did this through the shape of his crystal forms; he has some threatening horn-like structures and intense eyes, and his hands are almost like claws, but his form overall is a little skinny and brittle.
